Discussion With Dr. Eric Thai, Premier Eye & Optical, LA

Just-In-Time Delivery Guarantees that the Patient Comes Back with Other Family Members

In Baton Rouge, LA, nestled near a dental office and inside an office condo Arches gonflables, is the headquarters of Premier Eye & Optical. Lead Optometrist Dr. Eric Thai serves a mixed population, from middle-aged families to the low income singles. After a brief career inside a large eyewear mega-facility, Dr. Thai knew that he wanted to offer his patients a chance for personal care, quick turnaround, and money savings.

“When I found the Optical Dynamics in-house lens production system, the Q2100, its sheer practicality appealed,” he said. In his average day, now nearing six months under the new OD system, he can almost always dispense to patients a finished pair of eyeglasses in less than two hours. Premier Eyecare & Optical has moved to just-in-time delivery in recent months on most prescriptions, including lined and no-line (Progressive) Multifocals as well as sunSMART photochromic Grey and Brown. “We do about 10 to 15 pairs of lenses in a weekday, and I make them myself. It gave me a lab in the office,” he added. nanoCLEAR™ AR technology benefits from Optical Dynamics include: affordability, ease-of-use, improved patient satisfaction, and increased sales and profits.

He is proud that with the Optical Dynamics system he can provide a new type of photochromic lens which allows a constant tint indoors and inside vehicles. This particular lens will turn darker than regular photochromic lenses, while in direct sunlight. The product is called ultraSUN Aufblasbare Bögen.

At the end of the day, the customers come back with other family members, because this is where patients get service and the technology to produce the lenses can be relied upon, he added.

Dr. Eric Thai graduated from Broadmoor High School in 1995 and Louisiana State University in 2001. After graduating from LSU, he moved on to Memphis, TN for optometry school where he completed his degree as Doctor of Optometry in 2005. He performed his internship at Eyecare Associates and the Oschner Hospital in New Orleans, LA. Before practicing at his current office, he had practiced in Jackson, MS for two years.

“It is the family practice that draws people—the fact that we can make lenses for any member of your family,” he says with pride. Dr. Thai also provides a website that offers insight into the lens materials used. Educating his patients is an important part of the process, and Optical Dynamics provides the trusted brand basics that are required for repeat customers, he pointed out.
