FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much space does it take?
The complete system with a Q-2100 and AR unit requires about six feet of counter space. Please refer to the Lab Layout Options page on this web site.
Do you install it?
Yes. We will contact you to determine your anticipated layout option. We will send an installer who will set up the system, calibrate everything and run test lenses to ensure accuracy.
Can my existing staff do it or do I need to hire someone special?
The system was designed to be operated by someone who has no previous production experience. It is not necessary to have a lab background to produce quality lenses on our system.
Do you provide training?
Yes. When we install the system our trainer will spend two days on-site working with your staff. They will train someone to operate the system, as well as, work with your front office staff so that they understand the features, advantages and benefits of the lens designs and materials.
How many pair per day do I need to do to make it pay?
This can range from 1 to 2 pair of progressive lenses or photochromic lenses per day. The answer really depends upon what your practice is currently paying for products like premium progressives, photochromic and AR lenses.
Can I purchase the equipment or do I lease it?
You can purchase the equipment outright. You may also lease it or arrange your own financing options.
Do you help arrange financing?
We work closely with several industry leasing companies and can help you arrange lease financing if you desire. The typical process only requires a short 1 page lease application with approval often received same day.
Do I need to sign an ongoing consumables contract?
No ongoing consumable contract is necessary. Optical Dynamics has adopted a new low fixed pricing policy for all consumables. You simply purchase what you need when you need it. Most of our consumables have a very long shelf life. The exception is the nanoCLEAR AR chemistry which has a 90 day shelf life.
What kind of warranty is on the equipment?
Both the Q-2100 and the nanoCLEAR AR system come with a 1-year warranty that includes both parts and labor.
Can I purchase an extended warranty?
Yes. We offer an extended one year warranty that can be purchased each year for years two through five after installation.
What kind of warranties are on the lenses, AR, etc?
We offer a host of warranties on our lens products. For the first 6-months we offer a no-fault casting warranty that guarantees you 100% yield on manufacturing. We also offer a 6-month non-adapt warranty on our progressive lenses or photochromic lenses. Our nanoCLEAR AR, nanoXT and nanoGUARD scratch coatings all carry a 2-year warranty.
What if I lose my operator, how do I get training on a new one?
You have two options. First, you can elect to send your new hire to Optical Dynamics to attend nanoUniversity, a 3-day training program held in Louisville KY each month. There is a nominal fee for attendance. We can also arrange to have our trainer return to your practice for a 1-day training session. This is subject to trainer availability with a fee for on-site operator retraining.
What if you come out with something new, can I upgrade?
Our technology is designed as an operating platform. When we develop new technology such as the nanoCLEAR AR system, it is designed to work in conjunction with the Q-2100R Digital Lens System. If we develop new progressive molds, new lens materials, new photochromics, scratch coatings or AR chemistries, they will all work on your existing platform.
What are your tech services hours?
Our service techs and customer service advisors are available Mon-Fri from 8:30am to 5:00pm EST.
If my machine breaks how long before I am operational again?
In the case of the Q-2100, we can overnight you a replacement piece of equipment while yours is returned for service. This means your down time is usually only a day or two at the most. In the case of the nanoCLEAR AR system, it is wired to the internet, so most issues and adjustments can be made by our techs remotely. In the event that the unit must be returned for service, the turnaround time is usually about one week. In the meantime we can cast AR prescriptions for your patients in our lab in Louisville to reduce any patient inconvenience.
How does this compare to the new Free-form lenses?
Our lenses are cast using precision glass molds that were made on Free-form generators. In addition, glass molds are more rigid, hold their curvature better and have better surface quality than plastic materials. When we cast our lenses we pour hot liquid plastic between the molds, so our lenses have surface and curve quality that mirrors the glass. The result is better visual acuity.
Can I try a pair of lenses?
Yes. We encourage you to try a pair of our lenses, especially a CFL progressive. Most single vision stock lenses are cast directly to the finished Rx, so if you are wearing single vision chances are you are already wearing a cast-to-Rx lens. If you are a multifocal wearer, then chances are that you have never worn a cast-to-Rx progressive. Once you try the lenses, it will become clear why you should be dispensing theses lenses to your patients.
Can someone evaluate my practice to see if I am a good fit?
Yes. One of our sales representatives would be happy to come to your practice to conduct an economic evaluation. We will go through your past lab bills to determine exactly which lenses would have been good candidates for our system and what the comparative cost would have been. You will have a very clear picture of the financial impact that our technology will have on your practice profitability. Be prepared to be pleasantly amazed.
Can I see a demonstration of the equipment?
We are able to demonstrate the Q-2100 casting system on site. It is reasonably portable and easy to set up quickly. Unfortunately the AR system is not easily transported, set up and calibrated; therefore we can don’t demonstrate the AR system on-site. You are always welcomed to visit us in Louisville or we can often arrange to have you visit an existing customer nearby.
What is the lead time if I decide I want to purchase the system?
Typically, once you make the decision to purchase, financing is settled in a day or two. It then usually takes us between one and two weeks to coordinate shipping the equipment and scheduling an installer/trainer. We try to be sensitive to your practice environment, so that everything is handled with minimal disruption.
